Myers & Co raises £2,600 to support local men affected by prostate cancer

Our team has raised £2,600 for the North Staffs Prostate Cancer Support Group, helping it continue its work with men and families across Staffordshire.
The group was our charity of the year for 2025/26. During that time, our team has organised tombolas, raffles, a bake-off competition and an Asian food feast, as well as taking on a 10-mile walking challenge.
Everyone brought their own ideas to the fundraising, with plenty of opportunities to get involved and support a cause that makes a difference locally.

Helping fund local testing evenings

Part of our donation will help the group support PSA testing evenings organised by Stoke-on-Trent Lions Club and Uttoxeter Lions Club. Between them, the clubs test around 950 men each year.
Clive Stevenson, co-founder and chairman of the North Staffs Prostate Cancer Support Group, explained:
“The test costs around £30 per man, and we have supported these events by donating £1,000 to each organisation this year. Myers & Co’s donation means we will be able to offer similar support next year.”
The money will also contribute towards the group’s running costs, including meeting hall hire, its website and printed information.

Support for men and their families

The group holds monthly meetings in Hanley for patients, carers, adult family members and friends. These give people the chance to share experiences and speak with others who have been newly diagnosed, are undergoing treatment or have had a successful outcome.

A clinical nurse specialist from the urology unit at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust also attends to provide professional advice.

Alongside its meetings, the group runs a telephone helpline and holds awareness events at workplaces, supermarkets and community venues.

Clive added:

“The team at Myers & Co put a huge amount of effort into raising money for our group. Their enthusiasm and generosity are a wonderful example of the support our local community gives to men and families affected by prostate cancer, and we are extremely grateful.”

Thank you to everyone who took part

Jen Goodwin, our director and head of corporate, said:

“We chose the North Staffs Prostate Cancer Support Group because of the important work it does to support men and their families, as well as to raise awareness.

“We had a fantastic time coming up with different ways to raise money, and it was brilliant to see everyone getting involved and bringing their own ideas and enthusiasm to the cause.”

Thank you to everyone who organised an activity, took on the walking challenge, baked, cooked or donated.

Your support will help the group continue providing information, practical support and opportunities for local men and their families to meet.
