Overview:

As a Senior Employment Solicitor, you will lead and support the continued growth and development of the employment offering, with a particular focus on contentious employment matters. You will play a key role in marketing the business and building its reputation, while managing your own caseload of complex tribunal and dispute work

You will be expected to demonstrate leadership, commercial awareness, and the ability to support and mentor others within the team.

Key Activities:

  • Manage a varied caseload of contentious employment matters, including tribunal claims, disputes, and complex advisory work arising from contentious issues
  • Provide clear, practical advice to clients on employment disputes, risk management, and litigation strategy
  • Build and maintain a strong client base, delivering high-quality advice and service
  • Communicate effectively across the business, influencing at senior level and contributing to Board-level discussions where required
  • Support the strategic development and growth of the employment offering
  • Use financial and case management reporting to monitor performance, workflow, and resource planning within the team

Commercial Property Paralegal

Reports to: Reports to the Head of Commercial Property

Location: Festival Park, Stoke-on-Trent

Overview:

As a Commercial Property Paralegal, you will support the team in managing a varied caseload of commercial property matters, assisting fee earners with transactions and contributing to the efficient running and growth of the department. You will also play a role in supporting client relationships and the overall service delivery.

To be successful in this role, you will be organised, proactive and commercially aware, with strong communication skills and a willingness to learn and develop within a supportive team environment.

Key Activities:

  • Caseload Support – Assist with a varied caseload of commercial property matters, including leasehold and freehold transactions, under supervision.
  • Team Support – Provide reliable, proactive support to fee earners and contribute positively to the wider team environment.
  • Communication – Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and third parties to ensure smooth progression of matters.
  • Business Development – Support the team in developing client relationships and assist with marketing activity where appropriate.
  • Administration – Maintain accurate file records, update case management systems and assist with document preparation and completion processes.

Senior Associate

Reports to: Reports to the Head of Litigation

Location: Myers & Co, Stoke-on-Trent

Overview:

As a litigation solicitor you will run your own caseload and support the growth and development of the litigation offering, as well as being actively involved in marketing the business as a whole.

To be successful in this role you will need to be self-motivated, commercially-minded and have good people skills.

Key Activities:

  • Caseload. Pro-actively manage your own varied corporate caseload, with support, including (but not limited to):
  • Commercial disputes (e.g. partnership, shareholder, directors duties);
  • Property disputes (commercial and residential)
  • Contractual disputes
  • Professional negligence disputes
  • Debt recovery and enforcement matters
  • Insolvency
  • Defamation
  • Restrictive covenants;
  • Experience of advocacy, Court proceedings (in County and High Court), and alternative dispute resolution (e.g. mediation); and
  • Experience of dealing with costs in relation to disputes and Court proceedings.
  • Communication. Communicate across the business to develop a cohesive, positive team environment. Requires strong diplomacy skills to build a consensus. Able to articulate issues and make clear recommendations to the Board.
  • Business development. Proactively develop and grow a base of clients and referrers to build your own caseload and strengthen your professional network. Working with our marketing team to create content and be an active participant on professional networking platforms.
  • Supervision. Use the financial and case management reporting to monitor, manage and predict your own financial performance.
  • Technical advice. Develop, maintain and appropriately use your technical expertise.
  • Client focus. Develop and foster a client-focussed culture where the client experience is as equally important to the legal expertise.
  • Improve. To share knowledge and actively participate in the training and development of the department. Create an environment where complaints create opportunities to learn as opposed to an opportunity criticise or ignore. You will foster excellent relations with COLP and work in partnership to drive continuous improvement.
  • Financial control. Monitor work in progress and ensure credit control procedures are followed, particularly in relation to obtaining funds on account of fees and disbursements in advance. Work with our Finance team to forecast billing and workflow as accurately as possible.

Administrator Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Reports to: Reports to the Line Manager

Location: Myers & Co, Stoke-on-Trent

Overview:

To provide administrative, high quality support services across the firm and to all fee earners.

Deliver a professional, responsive, high-quality service to our clients ensuring full compliance with policies and procedures laid out by the Firm and by regulatory bodies.

To act as an ambassador for the Firm at all times, actively promoting its services.

Support:

Administrators will be supported in all aspects of the role by senior colleagues and the Line Manager for the team in which they work. Ongoing training and development will be provided to all Administrators, together with opportunities for furthering their careers.

Key Activities:

  • The operation of the strong room (retrieving Wills and Deeds)
  • The operation of the firms outgoing postal services and ensuring that all outgoing post is stamped or franked and dispatched or ready for collection each day
  • To ensure the firms office stationery stock levels are maintained adequately, including placing orders and providing re-order stock information
  • To comply with the firms requirements regarding individual performance and development, with the requirement to reflect on your quality of work and undertake the necessary training to stay up to date and competent
  • To provide internal operational supporting, including but not limited to: fetching refreshments for the office, emptying the dishwasher, maintaining the coffee machines, clearing the meeting rooms after client meetings
  • To support the firm to ensure that a high standard of client service is always delivered, including client hospitality within the office
  • To provide reception cover on a daily basis
  • To comply with any in house or external training requirements of the firm, including IT and compliance training

Corporate Solicitor   

Reports to: Head of Corporate

Location: Myers & Co, Stoke-on-Trent

Overview:

As a corporate solicitor you will run your own caseload and lead and support the growth and development of the corporate offering, as well as being actively involved in marketing the business as a whole.

To be successful in this role you will need to be self-motivated, commercially minded and have good people skills.

Key Qualifications:

  • Qualified solicitor or equivalent.
  • 4+ years post-qualification experience in corporate.

Key Activities:

  • Caseload: Pro-actively manage your own varied corporate caseload, with support, including:
    • Mergers and acquisitions (share/asset purchases and sales, due diligence, disclosure and completion).
    • Company formations and structuring.
      • Shareholder matters.
      • Partnership agreements.
      • Corporate restructurings.
      • Corporate governance and compliance.
      • Joint ventures and strategic partnerships.
      • Corporate restructurings.
      • Commercial contracts support.
      • Company secretarial work.

Post Completions Assistant

Reports to: Reports to the Head of Department

Location: Myers & Co, Stoke-on-Trent

Hours: Full Time or Part Time (minimum 3 days)

Overview:

To manage Client matters within the residential conveyancing department based in our Burslem office.

Key skills:

  • At least one year’s experience of post completion work, dealing with:
    • Lodging applications for registration
    • Dealing with requisitions
    • Checking and updating matters when the registration has been completed
    • Updating Portals
  • Good communicator with the team and with clients.

Key activities:

  • To manage a varied caseload of residential transactions from completion to registration including, leasehold, shared ownership, newbuild, right to buys
  • Maintain a well-organised file management system including adherence to timescales and compliance
  • Use Word, Outlook, Teams and our case management system (Proclaim) – training will be provided.
  • Preparing and submitting AP1 Forms to HM Land Registry
  • To maintain good relationships with clients, agents and referrers
  • To deliver high quality customer service to clients
  • To support and where necessary train junior members of staff
  • Dealing with requisitions from the Land Registry
  • Updating lender and government panels
  • Reviewing accounts ledgers
  • File closing

Hours: Full Time or Part Time (minimum 3 days)

Overview:

To provide support and assistance to the conveyancing department and wider team members, completing all tasks to a high standard.

Deliver a professional, responsive, high-quality service to our clients ensuring full compliance with policies and procedures laid out by the Firm and by regulatory bodies.

To act as an ambassador for the Firm at all times, actively promoting its services.

Key skills:

  • Some experience of conveyancing is preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good telephone manner when dealing with clients.
  • Use Word, Outlook, Teams and our case management system (Proclaim) – training will be provided.

Key activities:

  • Draft Contract packs and Transfers
  • Deal with sale enquiries
  • Review purchase contract packs and raise initial enquiries
  • Check responses to enquiries on a purchase and report to clients
  • Order searches, check and report to client on them
  • Order redemption statements
  • Review mortgages, report any issues to lenders and do a mortgage report
  • Deal with ID/Source of funds and gifts

Residential Conveyancing Fee Earner

Reporting: Reports to the Head of Department.

Office Location: Myers & Co, Burslem, Stoke on Trent

Overall Purpose: To provide support and assistance to the Department heads and wider team members, completing all tasks to a high standard.  To help in the running of the conveyancing department caseload and contribute to the team’s targets through personal work billed and/or assistance provided to team members.
