Sparked by the credit crunch of 2008, the past few years have not been good for the savings market. Rates have been on a seemingly permanent downward spiral with no end in sight, with returns on deposit-based accounts generally only available up to 1 per cent per annum. This is even more of a concern when you bear in mind that your savings are still at risk from inflation, currently 1.8 per cent, seeing the buying power of your money reduced.
