Employment Solicitor

Reports to: Managing Director

Location: Myers & Co, Stoke-on-Trent

Overview: As an employment solicitor you will lead and support the growth and development of the employment offering, as well as being actively involved in marketing the business as a whole. You will run your own caseload.

To be successful in this role you will need to be self-motivated, commercially-minded and have good people skills.

Key Qualifications:

  • Qualified solicitor or equivalent.
  • 7+ years post-qualification experience in employment.

Key activities:

  • Manage a varied employment caseload, including contentious and non-contentious work.
  • Communicate across the business to develop a cohesive, positive team environment. Requires strong diplomacy skills to build a consensus. Able to articulate issues and make clear recommendations to the Board.
  • Grow and maintain a client base by providing advice clients need at an appropriate price.
  • Use the financial and case management reporting to monitor, manage and predict to make sure the department is fully and adequately resourced to deliver a quality service, identifying where you need more resource, where you can allocate resource differently, and where you can reduce resource if appropriate, and do this in a timely way to make sure our client service is not negatively impacted.
  • Technical advice. Develop, maintain and appropriately use your technical expertise and the expertise across your team to help find answers to questions. Assist the corporate team with transactional work.
  • Client focus. Develop and foster a client-focussed culture where the client experience is as equally important to the legal expertise.
  • To share knowledge and actively participate in the training and development of your people. Create an environment where complaints create opportunities to learn as opposed to an opportunity criticise or ignore. You will foster excellent relations with COLP and work in partnership to drive continuous improvement.
  • Financial control. Be responsible for formulating the department budget and to monitor work in progress and ensuring credit control procedures are followed. Work with our Finance team to forecast billing and workflow as accurately as possible.

Legal Cashier

Reports to: Head of Department

Location: 3343 Price Street, Burslem, Stoke on Trent ST6 4EN

Salary: up to £28,000

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: Full time

Overview:

We’re looking for a Legal Cashier to join our Accounts team. The ideal candidate will come from a legal accounts background, be personable, a great communicator, conscientious and well organised.

You will work as part of an accounts team, but the role is to cover the legal cashier function for Myers and Co Solicitors in Stoke on Trent.

Key Accountabilities

  • Daily bank reconciliations
  • CHAPS and FP payments
  • Allocating all bank receipts
  • Handling fee earner queries
  • Process internal account transfers
  • Process sales and purchase invoices
  • Check completion statements
  • Some reporting
  • Compliance with SAR and anti-money laundering is imperative at all times.

Key Skills

  • Proven experience in this area
  • Confident in using Excel
  • Experience of Proclaim is advantageous but not necessary as full training will be given.
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Able to work towards deadlines

Commercial Property Solicitor   

Overview:

As a Commercial Property Solicitor, you will manage client matters within the commercial property department, working on a varied caseload from onboarding to post-completion. You’ll be part of a collaborative team, contributing to the success of the department through efficient file management, delegation, and financial awareness.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be self-motivated, organised, and a strong team player with excellent time management and people skills.

Key Qualifications:

  • Qualified solicitor with 2+ years PQE in Commercial Property
  • Proven experience handling all aspects of commercial property transactions

Key activities:

  • Manage a diverse caseload including disposals and acquisitions, landlord and tenant matters, and refinancing
  • Maintain a well-organised file management system, ensuring compliance and adherence to timescales
  • Delegate effectively to the legal support team to ensure timely completion of work
  • Monitor and manage the financial aspects of matters to support departmental KPIs

Commercial Property Legal Assistant

Reporting: Reports to the Head of Department

Overall purpose: To provide first rate support to solicitors and service to our clients according to their specific needs, ensuring full compliance with policies and procedures laid out by the Firm and by regulatory bodies. To act as an ambassador for the Firm at all times, actively promoting its services.

Key accountabilities:

  • Assist solicitors in managing a diverse caseload of commercial property transactions, including leases, acquisitions and disposals with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare summary reports on title, searches and transaction documents.
  • Maintain and organize case files, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Liaise with clients, estate agents, and other third parties to gather information, progress files and provide updates on progress.
  • Support the team with administrative tasks, including post completion work, onboarding clients and managing correspondence.
  • Attend client meetings and assist in the preparation of necessary documentation.
  • Stay updated on changes in property law and regulations relevant to the practice area

Trainee Residential Conveyancing Legal Assistant

Reporting: Reports to the Head of Department.

Office Location: Myers & Co, Burslem, Stoke on Trent

Overall Purpose:  To provide support and assistance to the conveyancing department and wider team members, completing all tasks to a high standard.

Deliver a professional, responsive, high-quality service to our clients ensuring full compliance with policies and procedures laid out by the Firm and by regulatory bodies.

To act as an ambassador for the Firm at all times, actively promoting its services.

Full training will be provided.

Hours: Full Time

Key Accountabilities:

You will learn to:

Draft Contract packs and Transfers.

Deal with sale enquiries.

Review purchase contract packs and raise initial enquiries.

Check responses to enquiries on a purchase and report to clients.

Order searches, check and report to client on them.

Order redemption statements.

Review mortgages, report any issues to lenders and do a mortgage report.

Deal with ID/Source of funds and gifts.

Exchange contacts.

Liaise with clients, lenders and estate agents.

Set up completions and arrange what’s needed for post completion.

Deal with post completion formalities, including registration at the Land Registry.

Draft SDLT’s.

Update lender and help-to-buy panels.

Assist in sorting out any internal accounts queries.

Ensure that the firm’s policies and procedures and those laid out by regulatory bodies such as the Solicitors Regulation Authority are complied with fully at all times.

Contribute towards the effective management of risk by carrying out regular risk assessments on all matters, efficient file management and by providing excellent client care.

Qualifications required:

No specific qualifications are required.

You should be able to demonstrate a good level of written English.

Experience in a public or customer-facing role would be beneficial.

You should be able to work efficiently and effectively as part of a close-knit team.

Reporting: Reports to the Head of Department.

Office Location: Myers & Co, Burslem, Stoke on Trent

Overall Purpose: To provide support and assistance to the Department heads and wider team members, completing all tasks to a high standard.  To help in the running of the conveyancing department caseload and contribute to the team’s targets through personal work billed and/or assistance provided to team members.
