The solicitors at Myers and Co in Burslem have been celebrating the firm’s fifteenth anniversary, albeit at a safe distance this year as the date fell right in the middle of the autumn lockdown.
Gathering around a big cake with 15 candles (even for just a photo) would have broken all the risk management protocols, so an alternative approach was needed.
Fortunately Helen Myers, the Office Manager, was able to procure some beautifully decorated and individually wrapped cupcakes with edible branded toppers from a friend for staff to enjoy.
Myers and Co was established in 2005 when managing director Stephen Myers bought the practice from Heatons Solicitors in Stoke-on-Trent, with a strong room of around 20,000 wills and a team of 14 staff.
The firm has more than doubled in size and now employees 34 people, and the range of services offered has expanded too.
“The last fifteen years have flown by,” said Stephen Myers. “Having set up the firm in 2005, we were soon hit by the financial crisis of 2007-08 and survived that to came out of it in good shape. 2020 has been just as tough, albeit challenging in other ways, but our team has been great in that everyone has adapted to new ways of working.”
“It’s a shame not to be able to invite our clients and professional colleagues in to share coffee and cake with us, as we would usually do,” said Helen. “Let’s just hope that things can take a turn for the better in 2021 and that we’ll be blowing out candles on birthday cakes sooner rather than later.”
